Rust

  • Rust is an ongoing game element. Anything and everything in the game is susceptible to rust, this even include valuable items such as Enchant Scrolls and Marks, with the exception of equipment with Soulbound ([SB=]), but there are a few things that you can do to prevent rust from becoming a major problem for you.
  • The consequence of rust happening to a piece of gear is irreversible and will leave it with the 'Tarnished' debuff, permanently lowering the item's base stats.
  • There is no limit to how many times a piece of gear can become rusted or tarnished, a piece of gear can repeatedly rust until all base stats go below negative.
  • There will come a certain point in a player's playthrough where the cost of losing Marks and valuables daily via rust becomes much greater than the Blessing cost.
  • Rust occurs after every Reset cycle. (Do NOT be confused with per Login.)

Rust and Mail

  • Items in Mail behave very differently and the terms 'Per Reset' and 'Per Login' must be carefully distinguished.
    • Rusting in Mail largely rest with the recipient and not the sender.
    • Upon Login a player can receive a notification that the player has received Mail. It is imperative that the player receives the Mail content from a post office BEFORE Logging out.
    • Logging Out and In after receiving the Mail notification (but not receiving them from the post office) will cause the Mail content to suffer the same rust as a Reset cycle.
    • Mail content is thus safe thru a Reset cycle provided the recipient does not Login until the Reset has occurred.

Ways of preventing rust

  • Blessing
    • The easiest way to prevent your items and gear from rusting is to get a blessing from the Royal Court. Receiving a Minor Blessing costs 100,000 marks and it ensures that your equipped gear won't rust - the minor blessing lasts until next Reset cycle(just like an oil would).
    • After getting a Minor Blessing, you can elect to receive a Major Blessing for 250,000 marks, which provides full protection against rust for your equipped gear and the gear/items in your backpack.
    • Ultimate Blessing covers all items on player, backpack and storage for 500,000 marks.
    • You will lose 1 'stack' of Blessing per Reset. For example a player that have purchase "Ultimate Blessing" during the previous Reset cycle will have it degrade to Major Blessing, thus only requiring the player to pay 500,000 marks to maintain it daily instead of 850,000 marks.

  • Snake Oils, Fish Oils and Primordial Oils
    • Another easy way to prevent your gear from rusting is to apply oils to them. Applying oils to your gear is imperative if you've ran out of space in your backpack, for it ensures that the gear won't rust overnight if they're safely stowed in your storage. Oils can be applied to each gear piece up to five times; each time guarantees that the gear will be protected from rust for one Reset cycle. One stack of oil is consumed upon the first time Logging in on a day but not on sub-sequential Logins the same day.
    • If you aren't the type of player who enjoys questing or can't seem to find enough Snake Oils for all your gear, manufacturing some Fish Oils through the Grand Oil Fish Project mission at the Dragon Guard is your next best bet. You'll receive anywhere from 14 to 26 Fish Oils for completing the mission.

  • The Risk of Rust
    • The chance of rust occurring is greatly reduced when your character sleeps at a Room or a Suite. Rust is significantly more likely to occur if your character sleeps elsewhere. If you have no choice but to camp out, be sure to bring a Sleeping Bag, Camp Tent, and Cooking Gear with you.

  • The Rate of Rust & Decay
    • It seems that the rate of rust & decay for items is at around 0.997%. One million (1000,000) Marks will decay to (997,000) the first Reset cycle. Certain items might have higher or lower decay rates. Decay rates also seems to be affected by the quantity of the stack of items. For example a small stack of 10 Sapphires is very unlikely to decay and lose any Sapphires if ever.

  • Polishing
    • Today, it costs 100 marks to unrust every rusted piece of gear that you have equipped and in your backpack. It will remove the rust but not restore the gear to its original pristine state. Polishing doesn't affect any rusted gear that you may have in your storage, so it may be a good idea to bring them out of there to avoid having to waste another 100 marks to polish them.
